Putty Rural Fire Brigade News
Hunter Valley RFS crews carried out a number of planned Hazard Reductions in the Singleton area. Residents along Putty Road and Putty Valley Road have also lit fires, but some that appeared safe at first, escaped into bushland.
A large number of fire trucks, including Putty, Broke and Whittingham, a water bombing helicopter, a grader and a bulldozer used to make fire breaks, attended two of these fires which took up to three days to be considered closed.
The most recent fire was at Yengo where a resident had a number of piles burning at the same time and the flames got away from him. Putty and Colo Heights Brigades attended alongside National Parks officers.
You are responsibly for your fire. Although the grass is short it is so dry that a fire will run and can ignite longer stubble and scrub making a runaway fire which could impact on your neighbour’s property.
Before you light your fire, ensure you have adequate containment lines, an adequate water supply available such as a 1000 litre pod and a working pump, both fitted to a trailer and the means of using it. Never leave a fire unattended, especially overnight. Don’t presume the cooler night air will put it out. You might be woken to the sound of a fire crackling on your doorstep.
Truck Training
Putty Brigade crew members, who may not have been familiar with the equipment on our new Category 1 fire truck, attended a training session recently to get them up to speed with
attaching water hoses to the truck, connecting to the bore at the station, filling the water tank on the truck and drafting water from a water source such as a dam. While at the dam they were shown where all the spray points on the truck were located.
