Last night a hail and thunder storm hit Putty at 7pm. It was not forecast. The northern end of Putty Valley had hail stones measuring 15mm and the rain gauge measured 19mm. However this would not have accounted for some hail which would have bounced out. Twelve hours later ice remained – see photo. Near the Putty Hall small hail with rain was reported. Today’s BOM forecast: ‘The chance of a thunderstorm on and east of the ranges in the afternoon and evening, possibly severe’.

Fires
A number of fires started in Putty and the surrounding area over the last month and have been brought under control. The most recent fire was on Commission Road, north of Putty, in the Howes Valley Fire Brigade area. This fire has burnt 246 ha and was no threat to Putty.
The Putty Alerts team have been keeping an eye on these fires to see if they are a threat to our community. You can do the same by downloading Hazards Near Me app on your phone to alert you to fires close by and by checking ArcGIS – NSW Fire Map which shows the size of fires and other information if you zoom in.
The fire which started at 627 Putty Valley Road burnt out 331 ha. Thanks to all the RFS volunteers and others who worked on this fire for over a week. The map showing the outline of the fire comes from the ArcGIS – NSW Fire Map. This is a very good resource during fire activity. Map updated: 8 Sep 2023 11:07
