Update from Putty

IBC Pod

Well done Putty People – no fires in October! Advices were issued for Garland Valley and Commission Road but none in Putty. The fire in Garland Valley was started by a tree root, burning underground from a fire put out weeks ago. When the tree fell over another fire started.

Don’t waste time, report fires directly to 000. Pay attention to Fire Danger Ratings and adhere to fire permit requirements. Download the Hazards Near Me app and keep up to date. Join the Putty Fire Brigade to help out or to be fully trained. Contact Putty RFS.

Many Putty people have converted IBC pods (photo above) to provide mobile fire protection around their properties. These pods are for sale online new or second hand but first check to find out what has been in them previously.

AI technology is being deployed across some parts of Australia to help detect and monitor outbreaks of bushfire. Detecting fires when they are small and controllable is a key determinant of whether a fire turns into a large and costly fire. Satellite imagery and high-resolution panoramic cameras deployed on towers at strategic locations, allows fires to be detected and responded to far quicker than human reaction. At Putty we rely on those people living on top of hills to keep a look out. More information in article on The Latch

Remove any metal objects which can create a spark when hit by a mower or slasher. If you hit something check that a fire hasn’t started.

Putty Hall Upgrade

Work has started on the upgrade to the Putty Hall. As the hall is a designated evacuation centre to be used during emergencies a grant obtained through Singleton Council is financing the upgrade which includes –

  • The disabled toilets will be brought up to specification and a shower installed.
  • A disabled ramp constructed off the deck will give access to the amenities block.
  • The supper room roof will be replaced.
  • Solar panels will be fitted to the main hall roof to overcome power outages.
  • The existing fencing is being replaced with child friendly materials.
  • The exterior timber section of the hall will be repainted.

Work is expected to be completed by the end of November.
